Peanut Butter Banana Dog Treats

So, I ran out of dog treats (which is a big NO NO in my household), and my poor wee ones were looking at me, sadness in their eyes, and I knew that I had to do something. Truth be told, I usually just chuck them some fruit or veggies, but on this particular day I felt like going the extra mile and making them something delicious. So I whipped together these baked peanut butter treats, which you can cut into your favorite shapes. The base of these treats are peanut butter, banana, and whole wheat flour, but I also threw in some spinach, just to boost the nutritional value. These are Ottis and Popeye approved (see my dogs doing the classic 'sit' move. I had a hard time not feeding them a bunch of them!)

Ingredients (makes 20ish treats):
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 ripe banana
1/2 cup water
1 cup spinach
2 tbsp flax seed oil (you can also use olive oil)
2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour

1) Blend the peanut butter and ripe banana together in a bowl. In a blender, blend spinach with water, and pour into the peanut butter mixture, along with the oil. Stir to combine, then add flour. Press with your hands until a large ball is formed. Spread the ball out on a lightly floured surface with a rolling pin. The thickness of the dough should be about 3/4 inch thick. Cut desired shapes with a cookie cutter, or a knife.
2) Bake in a 350 degree oven, for 20 minutes (or until lightly browned on the edges). Allow to cool completely, and let your dog(s) enjoy!

  2. Yes thank you. I am going to also. I don't like most of the ingredients and don't like animal products in them. These sound awesome. Thank you.

  3. My dogs all gathered around the kitchen as they were baking then they waited for me to give them one. And they wanted more. They loved them. Thanks so much. I don't have to worry about bad stuff going in plus its so much cheaper than buying them. Thanks.
